Local Lift: Geez SkateShop, Tossin' Axes, Blue Fox Drive-in Theater, & The BBQ Joint GIVEAWAY
This week’s Local Lift giveaway features some incredible Whidbey Island small businesses—as per usual! We’re so fortunate to have sooo many great independent businesses here on the island; there really is always another raved about restaurant to visit, a cute shop to check out, high-quality services to try, and memorable experiences to enjoy.
For each Local Lift, I purchase gift cards to a few Whidbey Island businesses to give away to the community. During the pandemic, I started this Local Lift feature as a way to give small businesses a boost, shine the light on what makes each business so special, and give locals the opportunity to try out a business. Geez SkateShop
Located at 749 SE Pioneer Way Oak Harbor WA 98277 just about a block from Flintstone Park on the water, Geez SkateShop opened in 2022 and is your local go-to for all things skateboard related (and more). If you (or your kiddo) wants to take up skateboarding, you can get a board built and have it maintained at Geez SkateShop. Many of the boards are even hand painted and feature creations from local artists, so you can get something that’s totally original. The shop also sells other equipment, shoes, and apparel.

Tossin' Axes
Have you tried axe throwing yet?! Yes, it really is what it sounds like! Tossin’ Axes in Oak Harbor offers a unique experience where you can throw an axe at a target in a safe environment. In addition to axe throwing, Tossin’ Axes also features pinball machines, skeeball, karaoke, mini golf, arcades, classic games, and more. Blue Fox Drive-in Theater
Blue Fox Drive-in Theater in Oak Harbor is open 7 days a week, and offers so much more than just a movie—it’s a whole experience! Blue Fox shows a variety of movies all year long, and right now they’re showing Elemental, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, and Transformers Rise of the Beasts. There’s a snack bar where you can get everything from burgers and hot dogs to popcorn and candy, and you can actually stop by just for the food without seeing a movie if you’d like. In addition to movies, there are also go-karts and an awesome arcade packed with games. There is also the BackLot Tavern which is a beer garden and 12 rotating taps which is the perfect 21+ spot to hangout before showtime!

The BBQ Joint
Locals absolutely LOVE The BBQ Joint in Oak Harbor, and the folks behind this popular restaurant are proud to bring Southern cooking and hospitality to the Pacific Northwest. Their extensive menu means that there’s something for everyone—Memphis Ribs, Carolina Pulled Pork, Texas Beef Brisket, sausage, sandwiches, corn bread, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, coleslaw, and more are all for lunch and dinner!
