Your Whidbey Island Guide to Wine (Wineries, Wine Shops, Wine Bars, & More!)

Before I dive into all of the amazing opportunities to enjoy wine on Whidbey Island, I want to be sure and take a moment to share the “Autumn on Whidbey Wine & Art Tour” event taking place on November 10 & 11th. This weekend is all about celebrating harvest, and in addition to sampling some of the best wines and spirits on Whidbey, you can go on studio tours and enjoy shopping for arts and crafts. And now… it’s time to take a look at some of Whidbey’s best destinations for wine enthusiasts!

OAK HARBOR

The Terrace Wine Bar & Bistro

Located at 791 SE Fidalgo Ave Ste 104 Oak Harbor, Washington

Boasting a selection of over 60 wines from around the world (plus 20 beers and ciders too choose from, too!), The Terrace Wine Bar & Bistro in Oak Harbor is a charming spot with old world vibes. Their impressive menu is reason enough to come back again and again—dishes like braised pork belly and nacho cheese mac, brie and roasted garlic bisque, and Moroccan curry stew is just a preview of what you can expect to indulge in.

Bay Leaf

Located at 101 NW Coveland St, Coupeville, WA 98239

Call all food and wine lovers! Bay Leaf is *THE* go-to spot for foodies and wine lovers! Whether you’re looking for a local gift for a friend or wanting to get plugged into a community of foodies just like yourself, Bay Leaf is well-stocked with it all. In addition to their various wine clubs, their cafe has indoor and outdoor seating where you can indulge in their rotating selection of wines and tantalizing plates. Pick up locally made gourmet food items and carefully selected bottles of wine, stop by the deli to pick up snacks before hosting your next get-together, or even hire them to cater your event with their stunning signature cheese trays or huge batches of Paella.

Vail Wine Shop & Tasting Room

Located at 22 NW Front Street Coupeville, WA 98239-1393

Nestled right on the waterfront, the Vail Wine Shop & Tasting Room is a must-visit spot in Coupeville for wine connoisseurs. Featuring wine from all over Washington state, they especially pride themselves on stocking hard-to-find wines. You can enjoy daily tastings in the comfortable and welcoming shop, and they even have a wildly popular Washington Wine-of-the-Month Club you can join!

TIP: Want to stay awhile? They have a vacation rental located *right above* the wine shop, showcasing fabulous views of Penn Cove and Mt Baker!


GREENBANK

Holmes Harbor Cellars

Located at 4591 South Honeymoon Bay Road Greenbank, WA 98253

Perched on a 20-acre estate that looks out over Holmes Harbor in Greenbank, Holmes Harbor Cellars doesn’t just offer excellent wine, but it’s an entire experience. The captivating setting and welcoming atmosphere is a joy to visit, whether it’s a stop on a wine tour or you plan to make an afternoon of it. Their grapes are sourced from vineyards in Washington state, and their most recent released feature grapes from the Yakima and Walla Walla valleys.

Greenbank Farm Wine Shop

Located at A101, 765 Wonn Road, Greenbank, WA 98253

This is no ordinary wine shop! In addition to local and award-winning wines, you’ll also find a delicious selection of fruit and dessert wines, organic and biodynamic wines, hard ciders, jams, syrups, and the famous Loganberry Wine! Greenbank Farm has been around since 1904, and over the years, the farm has seen all types of iterations and owners (and was even owned by Chateau Ste. Michelle for time). In the 1940s, the farm began growing loganberries (a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry), eventually becoming our country’s largest producer of loganberries. The berries were used to make Loganberry Wine and Loganberry Liqueur, and you can still pick up a bottle today!

TIP: The shop is perfect for stocking up on wine, but it’s also a great spot to pick up a gift. Need a housewarming gift, or visiting someone who would enjoy having something local to Whidbey? This is a one-stop shop for it all!


LANGLEY

Comforts of Whidbey

Located at 5219 View Rd Langley, Washington

Not only does this Whidbey destination have a tasting room, but they’re also home to a bed & breakfast and they’re a gorgeous wedding venue. Enjoy their Comforts of Whidbey signature wines, and stay overnight in the B&B to really take in the picturesque scenery. (On Saturday and Sunday mornings, you even get to enjoy a full farm fresh breakfast!). Located just a short drive from the ferry, their wedding venue amenities make for an ideal getaway that’s not too far off the beaten path.

Spoiled Dog Winery

Located at 5881 Maxwelton Rd, Langley, WA 98260

This small family-owned boutique winery produces a limited number of cases per year that you can find at their winery and in select local restaurants. The scenic Whidbey Island farm is a delight to visit, and their friendly dogs are ready to greet you! You can even bring your own pup to join in on the fun. Learn more about visiting in person here!

Village Wine Shop Tasting Room

Located at 221 2nd Street, #2A Langley, WA

Specializing in “small production, handcrafted wines within Washington state,” Village Wine Shop Tasting Room is self-described as being an “intimate place where you can gather with friends.” They stock everything from affordable wine that pairs perfectly with pizza, to higher-end choices for serious collectors on the hunt for something rare.

Whidbey Island Winery

Located at 5237 Langley Rd Langley, Washington

This award-winning gem produces 3,500 cases of wine a year, and not only is it a treat to sip on, but Whidbey Island Winery is a joy to visit in person! Relax on the patio or at a picnic table while you take in views of the vineyard and apple orchard in a peaceful setting. They grow their own grapes right on Whidbey Island, and also source grapes from vineyards in eastern Washington.

TIP: The Whidbey Island Winery’s Facebook page is consistently updated with events, new wine offerings, and sales, so be sure to follow them if you’re a fan!


FREELAND

Dancing Fish Vineyards

Located at 1953 Newman Road Freeland, WA 98249

The Dancing Fish Vineyards is a Whidbey Island destination, with stunning grounds to explore and enjoy as you sip on their carefully crafted wines. You can stop by for a few hours of wine tasting, stay the night in their charming accommodations, or even host events and weddings here. Whether you’re hosting a crowd in the Hospitality Barn or holding a smaller event in The Barrel Room or in the Tasting Room, they have a variety of venue spaces to suit your needs.

Blooms Winery on Whidbey Island

Located at 5603 Bayview Rd, Langley, WA 98260

Blooms Winery is moving to a brand new location in Freeland soon, but no matter where their address is, you can always expect the same internationally recognized wines. They’ve received several awards and have been featured in too many publications to name. Blooms Winery also hosts several musicians throughout the year—RSVP on Facebook so you don’t miss out!


CLINTON

 

Ott & Murphy Wines

Located at 204 1st St. Langley, Whidbey Island Washington 98260

Traditional French and artisan techniques go into each batch of handcrafted Ott & Murphy Wines, and their Swedish Arts and Crafts-inspired winery takes advantage of some of the best wine technology out there. In addition to their tasting room, they also offer private wine tastings, private catered wine events, special wine wedding packages, estate rental, and their wine club.
